The National Pee Test

With the National Pee Test (Nationale Piskijker), we made the invisible visible. Pesticides may seem like something limited to the land—to distant fields—but they don't stop at the edge of the farm. They end up in our food, in our bodies, and yes... even in our urine. Through this public campaign, we demonstrated that we truly are what we eat.

How Fresh is Your Pee?

With the National Pee Test, we aimed to achieve one thing: making the invisible visible. Glyphosate is an agricultural toxin that has been in our food system for years, and therefore, it is in all of us. It’s not just in the soil or on crops; it is literally in our own urine.

Who Participated?

The campaign received broad support. In addition to hundreds of citizens, several well-known Dutch figures participated to bring attention to the issue, including:

Hun deelname hielp om het gesprek over glyfosaat en gezondheid op de publieke agenda te zetten. Daarnaast deden veel mensen mee uit onze eigen community: boeren, consumenten, beleidsmakers, studenten, ouders, ondernemers en andere nieuwsgierigen die wilden weten wat er in hun lichaam rondzwerft.

De geanonimiseerde resultaten van de Nationale Piskijker zijn binnen en ze liegen er niet om. Wat meteen opvalt: iedereen heeft glyfosaat in zijn of haar systeem, allemaal boven de detectiewaarde van 0,6 ng/ml. Ook zien we een paar interessante trends: vrouwen lijken gemiddeld iets lager te scoren dan mannen, en ouderen hebben vaak minder glyfosaat in hun lichaam dan jongere deelnemers.
